The founding father of the Black Lives Matter chapter in Memphis has been sentenced to jail for six years for illegally registering to vote in Tennessee, prosecutors mentioned.
Pamela Moses, the 44-year-old activist, was ordered to spend six years and in the future behind bars Monday for registering to vote regardless of felony convictions in 2015 that made her ineligible to take action, Shelby County District Lawyer Normal Amy Weirich mentioned.
In handing down the sentence, Decide Michael Ward accused her of deceiving the probation division to acquire the fitting to vote,
“You tricked the probation division into providing you with paperwork saying you have been off probation,” Ward mentioned in court docket, the Washington Post reported.
In 2015, Moses pleaded responsible to tampering with proof and forgery, each felonies, and to misdemeanor costs of perjury, stalking, theft below $500, and escape.
She was positioned on probation for seven years and deemed ineligible to vote in Tennessee due to the tampering with proof cost.
Moses has maintained that she was below the impression that her voting rights had been restored when she went to vote in 2019.
